I've been wondering to myself for the longest time whether i should get an ibook when i start school at SMU . So after much extensive research online , i decided that i should get one . This of course comes with a plethora of warnings from Windows users about compatibility issues and what not but hell, i'm getting one . So in addition to the reasons to the top 10 reasons as listed in the apple website , which i have become a regular of . I'm coming with the reasons why you should get yourself one too .
1 . We hate Windows
We are bored of it . Bill gates can move over and let Steve Jobs take the reins . With a lot of buzz within the Industry with the launch of Windows' new OS, "Longhorn" ( very bad name btw ) , where the microsoft team trying to fix many of the security flaws , i reckon it will only be matter of time before more problems surface . After surfing the internet through several sites, you can't help but realise that there seem to be a growing contempt for Microsoft .
2. We hate Spyware & Adware & having to d/l programmes to deal with them
There seem to be a never-ending problems to this . I mean , i think i have like 3 anti spyware/adware programs in my computer i don't think they are doing what they are suppose to be doing . Plus , Internet Explorer sucks big time , i would rather use Firefox any given day . i'm also starting to think pop-ups from the anti spyware programmes asking whether i want to scan my computer now is getting on my nerves . NO POP-UPS . Go away !
3. We are Cheapskates
Now , an ibook is one of the cheapest notebooks around and for that kind of stability/beauty/functions , you would probably have twice that amount outside to get a similar notebook with Windows as their main OS . There are also tons of free programmes out there on the open source network (see below)which u can try out , thus minising whatever compatibility issues u might have . There is also built in airport express in the ibook , so now u can bring the internet wherever you go .
4. Go Open Source !
What is open source you might say ? Basically alternatives to the programmes that you have been so accustomed to ( all microsoft's fault btw ) . The beauty is that the programme code for these alternatives are easily available to developers all over the world thus , any bugs or problems are fixed quick easily . U could call it , "By the people for the people" . Some major examples are programmes like OpenOffice which is a good alternative to the Microsoft Office Suite . There are also alternatives to Adobe Photoshop , one of which is the GIMP . And even though there is a Mac version of MSN mesenger , to hell with that ! Use Fire instead . And guess what's the best part ? It's all FREE .
5. It's all so Pretty .
Before i risk sounding like a tech geek , i have to add this part in . Admit it , you have seen nothing like it and it's chic-est thing ever . It will go together with my (currently non-existent)ipod mini . The graphics are just so beautiful and everything is packed into that slim white casing . You can't deny something like that
6. iTunes & iPods
Perfect pairing i must say . I've recently downloaded iTunes and i love the functionality of it compared to Windows Media Player and Winamp . I mean , it even burns CDs . If you are worrying about about large number of WMA files , don't because it automatically converts your WMA files to the ACC format . Or if you may , u can judge for yourself whether this is an April's Fool Joke from Apple or not . And iPod . What can i say about it ? It makes me want to get one even though i have no real need for it (But, trust me, i'm slowly but surely rationalising my needs)
7. Rule number one of fight club ....
Does the words "Ares" ring a bell to you ? Well , don't be disappointed that the Mac does not support that . Try Limewire instead . Hehe . But , with 99cents per track on the iTunes , it is pretty cool too .
8. Check out the new Mac OS X Tiger .
Arriving in the first half of 2005 , the new OS promises a whole new level of usability that more people will be tempted to make the switch . While this is not to say that the current OS platform , Panther is no good . The thing is , good things just get better . Watch and be in awe right here
9. Apple Centres in Singapore
You know i'm a sucker for service quality and the service staff at the Apple Centres have been absolutely kind and nice in answering whatever queries you have . Thumbs up to that . They all just seem friendly without the all the fakeness in many of the lame japanese restaurants here . Most importantly , they all seem very convinced that the Mac will revolutionise your life ( as it has done to theirs ... )
10. It's my party and i cry if i want to
Enuff' said :P
So , with all that , i'm going to buy an ibook when i'm in SMU and everyone else in my family can keep their pesky hands off it because i doubt they know how to use it . haha ..
