As you all know , i've recently did a couple of dives at Pulau Hantu . Before you brush it off and say that is nothing to see in Singapore waters , i would like to tell you that it is not true . There is actually quite a number of interesting marine creatures to be spotted and it is a fantastic place for you to get close up the the host of micro marine creatures that call the reefs of Pulau Hantu their home . Who would imagine that corals and clownfishes , nudibranches , angelfishes would be available just at our very own backyard .
I heard that if the reclaimation works in Singapore stop for about 5 years , we might actually have the chance to have nice blue waters like Tioman . However , recently there has been a disconcerting development near the islands of Pulau that might threaten the reefs . Shell, the petrolchemical company is intending to pursue land reclaimation works around the island which will definitely detoriate the visibility of the waters . With the visbility getting so bad , the corals reefs cannot be expected to survive and if that happens , what will happen the marine life around the reef that are dependent on the reef as a habitat.
As a diver , i thought that everyone should know about this piece of news . I'm not asking you to take action and march on the streets to protest against it ( because u will so totally get arrested ) , but to actually spread this piece of news to your friends ( divers or non-divers ) out there and let them know , to be aware of their very own environment .
Make a visit to the Hantu Blog and see how u can help and learn about the development of the situation .
To end off , i would like to quote from the Hantu Blog .
Only when the last tree has died
and the last river been poisoned
and the last fish been caught
will we realise we cannot eat money
And really , money is not nice to eat . It's just nice to shop with . So do spread this message around .
