Return to the Wildeness
It has been SUCH a long time since i've done any proper trekking . The last time i embarked on such an expedition was in 2001 in Mt Ophir . This time , it is Pelepah Falls in Malaysia with a few of the dive team people . A team bonding activity they say . It was such a magnificent trek ! .. I love trekking ! , hahaha so much fun ! .. the crazy high of going through the dirt path and just abandoning all cares for the few days and all inhibitions of being a clean and squeaky person and just immerse yourself in the rain , river and the rainforest.
The rainforest was the least of our troubles . It was the crazy rain & the crazy river . Getting up the campsite involved us crossing several rivers and at certain points we had our entire bags wet and the water level at our chest . My chest at least , go figure ur own height . The currents was crazy and not to mention the icky teh bing colour of the river in the early portions of the trek .
The cause of all these ? The rain . The rain was pounding on us non-stop. causing floods everywhere including my own tent . It rained through the entire night , the entire day . We were all wet like 85% of the time . It rained so hard that the campsite we were at started to have mini tributaries flowing down and we could start bailing water out of our tent . We had to leave the place , but the rain showed no signs of stopping and imagine packing your back , dismantling ur tent in the crazy and btw , yours truly was wearing singlet and shorts .
As crazy the trek seem to be , it was welcome revsit back to all the trekking i use to do. Didn't fall too much on the slippery tracks and it was nice to note that my trekking skills are not all that rusty . It was a trek where many teva sandal soles gave way , nice company and a perfect reminder of the peace and challenge that trekking offers .
Back to ophir anyone ??
