Have you been to rallies ?
i have , and let's just say that it's a complete bore . Well , maybe to clarify further , i went to a PAP rally tonight at hougang and i've realised that rallies , other than hearing what the various political parties have to say ( whether intelligent or not ) , rallies also present an excellent opportunity for AS students to catch the multitudes of fallacies in the arguments which the government has offered . It was really quite an disappointment hearing what PAP had to say . If they even said anything in the first place . I don't understand how politics has ending up being a mud slinging competition where each sides take turns to dig out dirt on each side and crticise the opponents views . What about the people ? , do i really want to hear how the dissolving of grassroots will lead to social disintegration ( slippery slope ) , when it's not even true , and god knows what the grassroots do . What happened to the illuminating of policies to the people that may possible affect the change in our lives . All that was argued , if there was even an arguement , basically was what happened in the past and present . We really don't need to know what you have done in the past , but we want to know what the future has in store for us and how the ruling party can cushion any potential threats . Where has all the action gone to ? , all i hear is just mere talk . Talk in several languages which i don't understand . i.e. tamil , malay , teochew , hokkien , and very bad chinese
The 3 hour rally seemed like a session for face time more than anything . All i hear was vote for us , because we have been good and we will continue to be good . Threatening the people with no flat upgrades is a very lame and feeble threat . Surely it will bring out great change to the citizens in the GRC , but perhaps , the government is forgetting that the citizens do fork out a proportion of the money for the upgrade , so it's not like they are giving us free upgrade , so really , why are you even harping on it ?
i also don't understand why hougang was referred to as a slum . seriously . Do i look like i'm living in the slums ? The infrastructure is fine , nothing is collapsing , i have water coming out from my tap , i have my numerous malls , hougang mall / plaza / point / green . So what slum are they talking about , i really don't understand . Perhaps , the resale value of the flat is low , perhaps property prices are bad for my area , but what are you arguing about ? You can't expect everyone to be a bukit timah and you have to cater to the poor , simple economics and no political party can change that .
Can i just say that i live in a freak area . i stay in hougang yet i belong to a completely GRC , i cross one road and i enter into another GRC , cross from another side , the same happens . I'm sandwiches between 2 differen GRCs and to be frank , i'm starting to be very confused about it . i mean , just put me to either side , why purporsely single out my neighbourhood ?? How is an effective outline of the GRCs ? i'm confused . i take a bus and i see 36 different faces on posters . schizo inducing i say .
As much as people are digruntled with the ruling party , we have to face the fact that the opposition does not present a strong image and honestly , the opposition don't even look the part . and i shall not say names , but on one of the posters , a certain political party encouraged people to vote for them on their posters but putting a tick on the voting form as oppose to marking a cross . Siigh .. major faux pas .
This season of politics is getting more and more upsetting the more you pay attention to it . no wonder people are disillusioned by the entire scene here in singapore . I would assume that one solution is for the opposition to garner better talent for their parties but till then , we shall stay tune and see how the entire thing plays out till 6 May .
